The Town of Orono Assessor plans to return into the “field” as of June 1st, 2020 to perform necessary property inspections associated with the ongoing Townwide revaluation project as well as inspections of new construction for the upcoming tax year. These visits will involve an exterior inspection and if possible/necessary, a quick interior inspection. These inspections are vital in ensuring property data is as accurate as possible for assessment purposes.
These inspections will be conducted on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis in which all properties within a general area will be visited during a given time frame.
Current CDC protocols will be followed throughout the inspection process to ensure the health and safety of all involved. It is of the utmost importance to the Town and the Assessing Department that residents and property owners feel safe during this process. If, for any reason a resident or property owner is uncomfortable with this process the Assessor will strive to accommodate their concerns to the best of his ability. This may include but not be limited to, foregoing interior inspections and relying upon owner/occupant supplied information regarding the property or simply returning to the property at a later date.
