Orono Public Works Department
Monthly Report
January 31, 2012
The following is an update on many of our current projects –
Bennoch Road Culvert Replacement – This project is a Locally Administered Project (LAP) through the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT.) The scope of the project includes the replacement of a culvert under Bennoch Road and safety improvements to the roadway located near the town line past the cemetery. This project is on course to bid over the winter and be completed by September, 2012.
Margin Street Culvert Replacement and Sewer Improvements – This project will include the replacement of a dilapidated stone and concrete box culvert that had a failing sewer line passing through it. With everything reviewed and revised, we will be ready to bid this project in February, 2012. We would estimate complete to be in July, 2012.
Landfill Cell Development Project -- Permitting and project development could take 12 – 18 months to complete, but we are working to get DEP officials involved early in the process to help push the project to completion during the 2012 construction season. Progress in the past weeks seems point toward meeting our goal for a 2012 completion date. Over the next month DEP officials and our consultant, CES, Inc. will work together to bring all of the information required for the new permit together and ultimately grant the permit. Once the permit complete, we will be able to move forward with full construction documents and prepare to bring on a contractor for the work.
