FREE LANDFILL DROP OFF – MAY 12th, 15th - 19th, 23rd & 26th

The landfill, located on Taylor Road off Outer Forest Avenue, will be open FREE OF CHARGE to Orono residents to DROP OFF Spring Cleanup Items on Saturday, May 12; Tuesday, May 15 through Saturday, May 19; and Wednesday and Saturday, May 23 & 26 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Proof of residency or property ownership required.

Standard rules for acceptable materials apply. Acceptable items include:

♦ household and furniture items (NO TVs, monitors, batteries, fluorescent tubes, or computers)

♦ boards, debris, metal (items must be separated at the landfill)

♦ Non-freon white goods (i.e. stoves, microwaves, cabinets)

A complete list of acceptable materials is available at Orono.org, or at the Town Office.

The only charge for residents during this week is the $20/item fee for items containing Freon (i.e. refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners) which must be obtained from the Town Office prior to drop-off at the landfill.

No tires, auto engines, or car bodies can be dropped off. However, up to two tires (without rims) can be placed curbside with your weekly trash pickup.

Call the Town Office at 866-2556 for a list of local contractors that can assist residents in hauling items to the landfill for a fee.

Recycling Collection CANCELLED today 1/27/12

During winter weather events Public Works employees and equipment must be dedicated to snow removal. Because of this, Public Works is not always able to collect recycling during winter storms.

Residents are encourage to please NOT put materials curb side today, Friday, 1/27/12. If you have already, please bring it in as damaged and wet materials cannot be recycled. Public Works crews will be out Monday, 1/30/12 to collect materials placed curbside by 7:00 AM.

Again, please do not leave materials curbside through the storm and into the weekend, crews will be out Monday to collect materials missed today due to the cancellation of this service.

Curbside Trash Pickup Delays

Please be aware that curbside trash pick up will be delayed one day during the weeks of Christmas and New Years. The trash pick up dates will shift from December 29 and 30 to December 30 and 31, and again from January 5 and 6 to January 6 and 7.

Please note that recycling will not be affected and will be picked up on December 29 and 30.

New Winter Hours at the Landfill

Due to low demand and our continued dedication to fiscal responsibility, the Town of Orono Landfill will have limited hours of operation during the months of December, 2011 through March, 2012. The Landfill will be open to permit holders on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the following dates:

December 3^rd, 17^th

January 7^th, 21^st

February 4^th, 18^th

March 3^rd, 17^th

The landfill will also be available to permit holders on Wednesdays by appointment only at no additional charge. Appointments can be made by contacting Rob Yerxa or Ken Beylerian Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM at 866-5062. Appointments will be taken at the discretion of the Public Works Department contingent on staffing levels and weather considerations.

Beginning March 31, 2012, the landfill will return to the standard hours of operation — every Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. As always, the landfill is available to be opened on unscheduled days, by appointment only, for an additional charge.

Landfill Closed November 23rd

Due to winter weather and staffing issues associated with it, the Orono Landfill will be closed on November 23, 2011. Regular hours will resume Saturday, November 26, 2011. Thank you for your cooperation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Bagged Leaves & Brush Curbside Pick Up Starts Today!

BAGGED LEAVES & BRUSH PICKED UP CURBSIDE

May 10 – May 27, 2011

The Town of Orono will begin picking up bagged leaves and brush on Tuesday, May 10 through Friday, May 27, 2011.

Bagged leaves should be placed curbside next to the brush and limbs. Piled limbs should be at least four feet, but not longer than eight feet in length. Limbs must be less than six inches in diameter.

Brush should be neatly piled at curbside and limbs should be stacked with broadest diameter ends facing the curb. No chunks of firewood, blocks of wood or stumps will be picked up.

Trash that is mixed with bagged leaves will not be picked up.

Landfill Closed April 2nd Due to Winter Storm

Due to winter weather conditions and staffing limitations, the Orono Landfill will be closed on Saturday, April 2nd. Weather permitting, the landfill will return to its regularly scheduled hours on Wednesday, April 6^th.

Holiday Tree Pickup

Public Works will begin picking up holiday trees curbside on Monday, January 3rd and continue collecting them through Friday, January 21, 2011. Please leave your trees out during this time period and the Public Works crew will circulate around town picking them up during regular working hours.
